Like, comment, share: belonging and exclusion in the protest community
Abstract
This paper focuses on the Facebook community of the Greek Indignants and contrasts it with John Dewey’s vision of democracy as social cooperation, which orients citizens toward pluralistic associations and discourses. Instead of Dewy’s democracy the Indignants’ community forges a Web enhanced regime – defined here as Communitarianism 2.0. The direct democracy envisioned by this regime is closer to Schmitt’s constitutional theory in which homogeneity is a necessary precondition for democracy.Downloads
