Abstract

This article argues that since the recession of 2008 in Spain, a transmedia paradigm of hegemonic masculinity emerged based on the the spectacularization of hypermuscular bodies. Through close readings of bodies and discourses of different celebrities, this paper suggests that this trend might be a response to the need to monetize the body, as well as a reaffirmation of hypermasculinity in times of crisis.
